About Dedicated Community Bank

In December 1984, two of South Carolina’s largest banks merged. In Darlington, SC, a number of local advisory board members of the Darlington office of the merged bank decided that Darlington needed a community bank with Darlington roots to ensure that current and future banking needs of the local community would be served by a local community bank. This new bank would have personal one-on-one service as its key value and would make all banking decisions locally and quickly. This was the vision of those board members and long time local banker Thomas P. Rhodes, who led much of the initial organization effort. Out of this vision, Darlington County Bank was created. Darlington County Bank, with W. B. McCown, III, as its President and CEO, opened for business on March 10, 1986 in Darlington, South Carolina at 202 Cashua Street, in the same building that previously housed the Pee Dee Electric Cooperative corporate office and the Darlington County EMS.
