Friedrich Michael Hauck was just 25 years old when he laid the foundation stone for today’s bank in Frankfurt am Main. On January 1, 1796, he became a partner in the then renamed shipping and commission business Gebhard & Hauck. The trained businessman Hauck, originally from the Palatinate, had been able to build up an extensive network of connections during his numerous business trips across national borders, which should be of great use to him.
