What is a Dusting Attack?

A crypto dusting attack is used in the crypto world to track and de-anonymize wallet addresses. When making a dusting attack, a small amount, also called dust, of coins or tokens is sent to a wallet address. Sometimes the dusting attack could be aimed at thousands of wallet addresses. Dusting attack is performed by scammers and hackers who want to uncover the identity of wallet owners.

Attackers track the activities of the wallets and employ different analyses to break the privacy of cryptocurrency owners. The collected information and identity can be used in phishing attacks or other forms of cyber threats. The dusting attack is more commonly executed with coins and tokens with low blockchain network fees.
