On March 28, 1952, the large branch banks, the larger regional and state banks as well as leading private banks in Germany merged to form a consortium. Under the leadership of the then Rheinisch-Westfälische Bank Aktiengesellschaft, Düsseldorf (one of the three predecessor institutions of today’s Deutsche Bank AG), they founded the Export Credit Corporation in Frankfurt am Main, or AKA for short.
