What is a Whale in crypto?

A whale is any individual, institution, or group holding large quantities of a specific crypto coin or token. Whales might cause a bearish or bullish movement in an asset’s price by selling or buying large quantities. Whales can use their crypto holdings to manipulate the market for their benefit and be part of a pump and dump scheme.

In Bitcoin ownership status, a whale is any bitcoin owner that has between 1,000 and 5,000 bitcoins.
