The history of Union-Bank AG is closely linked to the changeful economic development, political currents and cultural influences of a border town. The old trading town of Flensburg has always had extensive relationships in the Danish area, which are still of great importance today.

In times of national conflict, there was an increasing need for a “Danish” bank in the region. For example, at the suggestion of Flensborg Avis’ member of the Reichstag and editor-in-chief, Gustav Johannsen, the “Spare og Lånekasse Flensborg og Omegn” was founded and started business on October 9, 1875. With the introduction of the civil code on January 1, 1900, this was then converted into a GmbH.
