What is a Centralized Exchange or CEX?

Centralized exchange (CEX) denotes a system in which transactions are made through a middle man. The CEX is based on infrastructure owned by one or a few entities, and the control is in the hands of the third party that owns the exchange. Accordingly, the exchange will have control over traders’ accounts which is not the case with decentralized exchanges (DEX).
